Practicing eating mindfully
As I work to be more and more mindful of what I put in my body and in Bradyn’s body I am much more aware of the consumption that goes on around me. In high school I never thought twice about buying and drinking a Big Gulp or *GASP* even a Super Big Gulp. But back then I was less educated about high fructose corn syrup and caffeine and all the other crap that I was putting in my body.
Did you know that Starbucks is introducing a new drink size in May? The Trenta is a 31 ounce iced drink that is actually more liquid than the capacity of an average human stomach.
The National Post put together this unsettling and captivating and freaking great graphic.
Our society is so focused on excess and has been for so long. How do we break the patterns for ourselves and for our children? Why in the world do we need a cup of iced coffee that is bigger than our stomach capacity? I don’t have answers. Just questions.
As I was looking for some meditation and motivation to keep living and eating mindfully I came across these words of inspiration -
“Neurotic behavior is quite predictable. Healthy behavior is unpredictable.” – Carl Ransom Rogers
Those of you that have answers or ideas or inspiration or motivation about breaking free of the excess please leave me a comment or tweet me and give me ideas. Because, well I find that this change doesn’t just happen over night. I have to set the intention every single day. Some days I stumble and we eat like crap and then we feel like crap. And I sure could use some friend that are fighting the same fight.
Thanks
