Meditation Monday – Pushing Buttons
Currently, I am working my way through Five Good Minutes: 100 Morning Practices To Help You Stay Calm & Focused All Day Long
(Amazon Affiliate Link – That means if you click the link and purchase the book, Amakua Market gets a commission AND as always 10% of our profits are donated to social causes and charities). This book offers 100 morning meditations that are geared to help you stay calm and focused all day. Let me know in the comments section what you think about this series.
This weeks exercise is about stress and learning what your stress buttons are so that you can avoid them or when those triggers arise you can calm yourself quickly and easily. As with all of the exercises, this takes a little reflection.
- Think about the last time you were really super stressed. How did you feel. Psychically? Mentally? Did your heart start beating faster? Did your stomach hurt? Did you immediately get defensive and combative? Are you feeling all those same feelings now?
- Imagine a knob. You know like the volume knob on the stereo in your car. Imagine turning the volume down and your stress going down with it.
- Now add another button. Right next to the stress volume knob. This button brings on calming thoughts. Push it.
- Create a mantra or a phrase to say when you need to de-stress and calm down. “I am calm. I am in control. I am relaxed”. The phrase can be anything you want it to be. Whatever helps you get the stress under control and bring on the calm.
This always helps me get it together, I hope it works for you.
If you have other tactics for dealing with stress please tell us about them in the comments.
Thanks
