Life’s an Adventure – Helping B Chill Out
Last Saturday morning was one of THOSE mornings. We stayed out late Friday night having dinner with our Thanksgiving Soldiers and Bradyn woke up EARLY on Saturday morning. When I say early I mean 6am-ish early. ON A SATURDAY!!! By 9am we had eaten, taken showers, played a few games, painted and danced.
I’ve been trying really hard to focus on quality time when we are together – you know – be in the moment – put down the iphone – keep TV viewing to a minimum – all that jazz – I’m doing pretty okay but some times…. Well, sometimes, it really is more difficult than it sounds.
Around 9, I was at a loss. He was ready to party and I had no idea what we should do next. Then I remembered - The Yoga Sanctuary in Leon Springs has a kids class on Saturday mornings! I called to get the details and found out that for only $10, Bradyn could find his center and I could find my balance. WHAT.A.DEAL!
We were in the car and on our way in a split second. Bradyn has been watching me practice yoga in our living room since he was a few days old and has always participated in one way or another so I knew he would enjoy the class. But…. I had no idea what a difference a teacher who knows what she’s doing – paired with a genuine love for children could make. Miss Sheila was a P.R.O. – she had those kids focusing on their energy and going from:
Being Mindful
to Sun Salutations
to One Leg Downward Facing Dog
to Plank
To Cobra
to Headstands
to Savasina
Bradyn LOVED every second! Before we knew it, practice was over and we were both oh so refreshed. On the way home I asked Bradyn what his favorite part of class was – he said “when we were lions and we ROOOAAAARRED!”
I was just a bystander but my favorite part was at the end of class when Miss Sheila touched her heart and said “Can you feel that? Can you feel that peace?” All of the kids nodded and she went on to say “That peace inside you is YOURS! No one can take that away from you. NOT EVER.”
WHAT a great lesson for my 4 year old to hear on a random Saturday in December. Some of us adults are still trying to learn or relearn or just plain remember that simple piece of information. If Bradyn can learn that and carry it with him… Well I think that would be a win.
Thank you Yoga Sanctuary for making our weekend bright and shiny!

One day I may stop reading these… Tears EVERY time! ;-]
Mel – you better NOT! :)
